Sushant Divgikar makes his independent music debut with Diamond

Well known reality TV star, drag icon, and Mr. Gay World India 2014, Sushant Divgikar has now released his maiden English pop single titled, Diamond.

Diamond is produced by Mango Films and Productions and performed by the talented, Sushant Divgikar. The music composition and lyrics of the single are done by, Arthur Lobo. The self-love anthem with its upbeat vibe, raw lyrics, aspires to leave the listeners inspired and empowered. With an underlying theme of self-acceptance, the single encapsulates the liberating feeling of being a free-spirit in a judgment-free zone. It is also a representation of the joy you experience when you don’t let opinions and voices undermine you.

The chorus serves as a much-needed repetition of acknowledging your imperfections and the bliss of living in the moment with this track. The gravel and texture in Divgkar’s powerhouse unmistakable voice add to his bold personality and makes this single even more appealing.

Reflecting on the track Sushant Divgikar states:

“It has been over a decade and a half since I ventured out as an artiste. I was only 16 and had big dreams when I embarked on my creative journey. I wasn’t even out of the closet back then and was so nervous to accept and embrace my true authentic self because of societal conditioning. As time progressed, I realised the importance of learning to love my true self and why I needed to stop paying heed to discriminatory attitudes and opinions. Along the way, I’ve been harshly branded but I’ve learned to rise above those labels and own my power and become the diamond I was born to be.

He further added, "This track is my ode to all the beautiful unapologetic people out there who face these labels on a daily basis, but refuse to succumb to conditioning. A really important step in the self-love journey is to let go of the stories we tell ourselves that make us feel lacking. Through this video I want people to wake up to the fact that everyone will have an opinion on you but those opinions don't define "Who You Are". Just like a diamond reaches its true state of brilliance after being put through the fire, each one of us is a diamond in our own right and have the ability to illuminate our path by being "who we are than pretending to be who we are not". Widely known by his drag name Rani Ko-HE-Nur, Divgikar also recently contributed to the gender-inclusive album Love Duet. The album celebrated the second anniversary of the historic judgement that repealed Section 377. The judgement also put the LGBTQIA+ community in the spotlight.

Along with being a reality TV star and drag icon, Sushant Divgikar is also a model, video jockey, and actor. Divgikar became the first drag artiste from India to ever feature on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia List. 2021 will also see him unleashing new music including an EP.
