India has seen a number of Indian athletes making it big at an international level, walking back home with laurels making India proud with their impeccable talent. One such sportsperson is a heptathlete, Swapna Barman.

Indian heptathlete and Arjuna award holder, Swapna Barman is the living example of hard work and determination. This Gold medal winner belongs from a small village in West Bengal, Ghospara village near Jalpaiguri.

Swapna is the first Indian heptathlete. For those of you who may not know, Heptathlon is a combination of both track and field sport with a total of seven events. She has made her mark in the sport and even won Gold for the country. Her determination saw results despite her jaw injury and is an inspiration to many.

She delivered her career's best performance with 6026 aggregate points in the Asian Games 2018. Unfortunately, she collapsed in 2017 Asian Athletics Championships – Women's heptathlon, but she finished fourth in the event as she was able to break her own record in the past events. She, however, stands in the number one position in Asian Athletics Championships – Women's heptathlon.

In 2019, she was honoured with the highest award given to a sports personality in India - the Arjuna Award. After Soma Biswas who won the award in 2003 she became the first athlete from West Bengal to be awarded the laurel.
