Vir Das along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Disney+ Hotstar's 'Aarya' becomes the third Indian to come home with the medal of an 'Emmy nomination' this year.
At one of the most prestigious awards in the world, India made a mark with three nominations, Vir Das, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Disney+ Hotstar's 'Aarya'. Vir Das was nominated for the International Emmy Awards in the Comedy section for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India. Even though he lost he was happy to have had the chance to take home a medal and a 'fantastic salad'.
Talking about his win, he wrote, "I was nominated for best comedy at the International Emmy Awards, for jokes. Call My Agent, a gigantic beautiful show I love won. But I got this medal and ate this fantastic salad with a very interesting crispy cheese topping. It was an honor to represent my country. Thanks so much to the @iemmys For India. It’s always for India. #VirDasForIndia."
The actor/comedian has been receiving a lot of love and backlash for his final monologue from the show that was posted on his YouTube. In the monologue, he talks about coming from the duality of India. He goes on to talk about the best parts of India while also highlighting the most recent issues. From COVID-19, farmer’s protest to rapes, he brushes through some of our major issues in a satirical manner. While some appreciated the actor pointing out these issues happening in India, a complaint was filed against him in the Mumbai High Court.
While our favorite comedian lost to the French series Call My Agent! – Season 4, Nawazuddin was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for Serious Men lost to David Tennant in Des, and Aarya lost to the Israeli series, Tehran.
Vir Das shared the news on Instagram:
Congratulations to all three for making it to the list!
