It’s time for Hospital Playlist fans to assemble as Resident Playbook is finally out and is stealing our hearts one episode at a time.
Hospital Playlist, which was released five years ago, has us all smiling ear to ear with its wholesome story which revolved around five doctors, their love lives and their love for music. While we await a possible season 3, the makers have given us a spin off show called Resident Playbook that’s turning out to be equally heartwarming. Resident Playbook is about the OB-GYN department in particular at the Jogno branch of Yulje Medical Centre - the famous hospital where Hospital Playlist was shot as well. While the first show was about doctors who are in later stages of their lives and have completed their residency, Resident Playbook is about aspiring first year residents who are just starting out in the medical field. We watch them make mistakes, get shouted at for the same, take away life lessons, make friends for life and fall in love. To sum it up, it’s soup for your soul!

Here’s why it’s fully living up to Hospital Playlist's legacy and giving me all the feels!
The camaraderie between the core four melts your heart
The relationship between the four first year residents is an accurate representation of how with time we become closer to our colleagues than with some friends outside of work. Nothing can beat the way trauma and a hectic work schedule brings you closer! The four of them are not only growing professionally but personally as well; they're just learning to love each other even though they don’t always see eye to eye!
The cameos from Hospital Playlist in every episode are nostalgic af!
Every single episode so far has had a cameo from the OG Hospital Playlist cast and no, you’re not the only one who freaked out when they showed up on-screen after YEARS!
Everytime Oh Yi-Young and Ku Do-Won are on-screen, I cannot help but want them to start dating ASAP!
Oh Yi-Young and Ku Do-Won’s will-they-won’t-they equation is definitely one of the highlights of this show. How Oh Yi-Young unabashedly confesses her love for him and how Ku Do-Won secretly loves and cares for her has me kicking my feet in the air out of happiness! It’s about time he reciprocates his feelings and the two get into a secret rendezvous at work!
The relationship that the first year residents build with their patients teaches you that being a doctor requires you to understand human nature as well!
Sometimes it’s not the bookish knowledge that these residents have to apply on their patients, it’s just the ‘I will show up for you no matter what’ reassurance that patients need. With time, Kim Sa-Bi, who is known to be the most to the point out of all of them, felt nothing when her patients cried in front of her but eventually had to learn to be more empathetic and show affection where it’s required. Because it might be the 100th case for a doctor but it’s probably the first time the patient is dealing with it and that has come out really well in episodes so far!
How each pregnancy is different and motherhood is a subjective concept for every woman
As a woman, it feels like an eye opener to see how women react to motherhood and pregnancy so differently. Some aren’t sure how they feel about it, some are paranoid beyond measure, some almost swing between life and death during childbirth and some are just done with how easy men have it. Amidst Korea’s low birth rate, how the drama sheds light on various problems is not just interesting but a tear jerker as well!
Medical dramas have their own charm!
There’s just something about medical dramas where we see doctors throw around medical jargon that we don’t understand in their blue uniforms and lab coats. And if you’ve ever wondered how doctors balance social life, their own health and their careers, let this show be an accurate first glimpse for all of this to you!
