Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 testifies that test cricket will not only sustain but continue to flourish and this young team India, no matter the challenges will always find a way to triumph!
It's been almost 24 hours since Mohammed Siraj cast his magic at The Oval to fetch India a historic win against England, and I’m still over the moon at the scenes I witnessed yesterday along with millions of other cricket fans. It was the final day of the high-stakes ultimate test between the two cricketing super-powers wherein the hosts only needed 35 runs with four wickets in hand to complete a remarkable chase of 374 and clinch the series 3-1. The visitors, on the other hand, desperately needed a win to draw the series and usher in the ‘Gill era’ on a triumphant note. With a lot on the line for both sides, this game wasn’t just a contest of bat and ball, but a battle of honour, endurance, and resilience with none of the team wanting to back down - like it was a matter of life and death. We had P Krishna and Siraj bowling rockets consistently from each end despite their overwhelming workloads, Chris Wokes walking down to bat with his left arm wrapped inside a sling, and ofcourse the sheer intensity in the eyes of each man on the field that added to the significance of the results.

For years, I've watched the Blue Brigade navigate the highs and lows but this series felt different. After the humbling defeat in the first test, there was that familiar knot of dread in my stomach - The ‘Bazball’ hype was real, the team was touring without the legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and a 25-year-old captain was helming a team in transition. But then, something shifted. We didn't just win, we fought, we bled, and we showed the world what Indian cricket is all about, what test cricket is all about! This victory wasn't just about the runs and wickets - it was about each player rising to the occasion, it was about watching a team, riddled with injuries and without some of its biggest stars, come together and play for each other. Their hundreds, fifers or any other milestones weren't just significant statistics, but were statements of intent.
The series will be etched in my memory forever, not only from the perspective of an Indian cricket team fan but also a devotee of the classic format of the game - test cricket. The tension, the drama, and the sheer unpredictability of the five-day matches make it the greatest form of the game, and the packed stands on all 25 days of this memorable series reiterate the same. The results of the maiden Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 testifies two things - The format will not only sustain but continue to flourish and entertain its enthusiasts, and for every Indian fan, no matter the challenge, the spirit of this young team will always find a way to triumph, and for that, we should be incredibly proud!
