"I think these moments of “normalcy” resonate because it’s something that everyone has to deal with," says Salma, as she talks about filming regular chores and finding an audience that loves watching them.

One thing Instagram has taught us is that one can never be bored of this life if we can find beauty in everyday life. Content has shifted its focus from only highlighting major events to celebrating the stillness and regularity of life. It could be the constant need to rush, catch that 9.15 fast local, meet up with clients and hustle to make money, we have become a generation that has begun to fall in love with the mundane. There is a whole community online that has figured out how to romanticize the most mundane aspects of life, making everything seem aesthetic and pleasing.

Filming everyday activities and sharing them as part of "A Day in the Life Of" series, or simply referring to them as mini vlogs, is a trend that many people enjoy. People went from gatekeeping these videos for their personal amusement to boosting about it as their 3 AM guilty pleasure. They have also become a constitute of the perks of being open about accepting adulthood. For activities that otherwise seem anything but a task, people have found a way to make it interesting, and filming all of them seems to be the answer.

If you had asked me to wash the dishes five years ago, I would have rolled my eyes and walked away, thinking, "Why would I want to do such a boring and laborious task?" But today, I would happily do it. It’s not because I have grown as a person but because I've spent hours online watching soothing videos of people doing dishes that have transformed my perspective on the task. A few years ago, if someone said that watching others do dishes, laundry, and cleaning the house was entertaining, I would've laughed! But now, in 2025, there's an entire community of content creators who cracked the code to turn these mundane activities into Instagram-worthy content for their audience.

Salma, also known as Home With Salma, happens to be a one of them and has managed to find her audience by filming cleaning videos. As a creator with over 100,000 followers, one reason she continues to share her content is her understanding of how moments of "normalcy" resonate with people. With these moments also being something that people experience, they become highly relatable to her audience.

"I try to see the beauty in the mundane. For me, it’s all about showing the little details such as the motion, the lighting, or the rhythm." - Home With Salma

What makes these videos interesting is the unique approach creators use when filming them. Getting the right angle isn't enough, these creators also have the task of making everything visually appealing. For Salma, it's a process of finding a chore and turning it into bankable content for social media. And she emphasizes the importance of observation and inspiration to identify how to make them happen. Noticing the beauty in your surroundings and highlighting the little details that will turn them into visual mastery is what makes such videos a guilty pleasure.

Producing her own content also includes research which is mostly about indulging in the content her fellow lifestyle creators' have to share. It's all about following their content and analyzing shots, editing patterns and angles. "I feel these little details help me make the end result much fun." Even though she has carved out her own niche as a creator, Salma emphasizes that while she enjoys the chore, certain aspects of filming them are particularly interesting. She admits that just like her audience, cleaning kitchen sinks is something she looks forward to. "It's my favorite thing to do. There is just something so satisfying about seeing a sparkling sink afterward. Also, the suds make the video visual, so there’s that." It's the fact that something that she enjoys aligns perfectly with her audience who love watching her videos and that's also a factor that motivates her to continue sharing her videos.

Salma recounted people telling her how they got motivated to clean their own space. Focusing on the remedial aspect of her videos, she said, "I have tried to connect my videos as a part of daily therapy and surprisingly, many people agree to it. It’s these little things that make creating content so worthwhile."

At the end of the day, it's encouraging to know that filming everyday chores, which may seem boring, has become a source of motivation for creators like Salma. This has also made these chores more interesting for those of us consuming this content, helping us romanticise the mundane parts of our everyday lives.
